| Carillon Kennel is
located 30 minutes north of Dothan, Alabama. Our home and barn are
surrounded by three hundred and fifty acres of beautiful pastures, creeks,
farm land and a twenty acre pond. Here, on our place, it is not unusual
to see the wild ducks migrate in every year. They enjoy feeding on
the vegetation around the pond, I would guess, about as much as we enjoy
just watching them. The pond, which is stocked with lots of fish
and a couple of beavers who have claimed it as there own, seems to bring
many of the animals out of the forest. Wild turkey can be see year
round eating around the pond and taking an occasional drink of water.
Early in the evening, it is possible to see a doe and her little fawns
quietly sipping up a cool drink of water and nibbling on the corn we put
out for them. There is a pair of beautiful hawks that have lived
here for two years, who are magnificent to watch as they hunt early in
the morning. It is a very serene place, quite unaware of everyday
noises. There are no signs of the hustle and bustle of city life.
Having retired here from Tampa, Florida, it is a very welcomed slower pace
of life that we now enjoy.
Along with our Boxers,
we share our home with Tennessee Walking Horses,
seventy head of cattle, Labrador Retrievers, and
last but not least, three cats. One of these is the 'Queen' cat that
stays inside. The other two, who adopted us, have laid claim to our barn
and protect it from little invaders. Here, we have plenty of land
for the animals to enjoy. We are enjoying all the things that only
retirement can bring. The atmosphere here is very relaxed and we
do enjoy taking off for an occasional dog show or horse show every so often.
Having grown up with Boxers, they truly are our passion. |
